Four Factors to Keep in Mind When Deciding Where to Study Abroad

Choosing to study abroad can be a very exciting decision and there’s plenty to think about. If you know that you’d rather go overseas to get your degree, then you can expect to be opened up to a whole new world of experiences, getting to know a different culture while seeing more of the world as you gain the qualifications that you need for your future career. It’s no surprise that more and more students are finding the idea of studying abroad appealing; it has many benefits, including improving employability, developing language skills and, of course, the chance to travel. If you’re trying to decide where to study abroad, here are some factors to keep in mind.

Where you’re going to stay when you study will have a big impact on your experience as a student, and there are several options to choose from. You may decide to start off in student halls or secure flats like the student accommodation in Portugal from Collegiate, which is ideal for many students as it’s a modern, comfortable setting with common rooms that make it easy to spend time with and get to know your fellow students. In addition, you’ll have all the amenities that you need such as high-speed Wi-Fi and on-site laundry facilities.

Another major factor to keep in mind before you make your choice is how much you can afford to spend. Studying abroad is often more expensive than getting your degree at home in the UK, so bear this in mind. The good news is that you may still be eligible for some financial help so look into all the different loans and grants available in the locations that you’re interested in. And, check out scholarship options as winning a scholarship would help to alleviate all or some of the cost.

Your Language Skills:

Although studying abroad presents you with a fantastic opportunity to learn a new language, it might be worth considering studying in a country where you can already speak some of the language, as this will make it easier for you to fit in and settle. Putting yourself in a situation where you need to meet new friends and attend classes when you have no native language skills can be stressful. Alternatively, it might be worth looking at countries where English is also commonly spoken as a second language, such as Sweden or Norway.

The main reason for choosing to study abroad for most students is that it allows them more opportunities to travel. Studying in Central Europe, for example, makes it easier than ever to see different countries, as many will only be a train or bus journey away. If you plan to travel a lot during your studies, then keep this in mind when you choose your destination and go for somewhere that is surrounded with visitor-friendly countries that will be easy for you to reach.

Studying abroad can be a fantastic and very beneficial experience. Where will you study?
